Don’t get me wrong, but I do love me some halloween and I do love taking the occasional crazy photo, but I haven’t had the passion to combine the two until last night. Brittany Ray messaged me up the day previous and asked if I’d like to pay around with some crazy makeup and do something halloween inspired. I could never deny Brittany the opportunity to rock something different so I accepted the challenge and proceeded to go back to my real work and set the shoot aside mentally.
Brittany arrived before midnight at the studio and we played around with simp makeup to start with, but couldn’t come up with anything too awesome. She finally asked if I had some plastic wrap and of course being the cook I am I had some lying around the studio. She said we had fake blood and pastil wrap let’s shoot a creepy dead body. Again, not my cup of tea, but I do love the thrill of accomplishing something new and out of my range as a photographer so we ran to the bathroom, got her in makeup and proceeded to pour vials of blood all over the poor girl and wrap her with plastic wrap and duct tape. The finished product was pretty scary and to make things worse we shot it in a pitch black studio in order to get the effect we wanted.
Imagine everything completely black then a burst of light revealing a woman covered in blood, dripping mascara and wrapped in plastic wrap and duct tape then everything going black again. A wonderful time indeed, but man did we expect that one of the photos she would be gone and all that would be left is a pool of icky blood. Kyle was the most afraid and continued to freak out, but luckily we held his hand and made sure he would survive this traumatic event without having nightmares.
In all it was a blast and after creating a brand new aperture preset and some fancy photos hoop ninjary we got the images just the way we liked them. I’m proud to know the Kyle was backing me up and even though he struggled to stay in one awkward position holding an accent light he only complained slightly. Our model Brittany on the other hand didn’t bat and eye and had a blast with our crazy antics the entire night. The only strange part was trying to figure out how to clean all that blood off the floor and walls but luckily we had plenty of brushes and cement wash. Still was hard sitting at Steak N Shake at 5am with dried blood in Brittany’s hair, but I guess thats what makes these shoots so magical. Love the stories
Mad props to the handy work of Kyle Wilson behind the scenes and of course our amazing model Brittany Ray!!!!
