I swear I’m not a prostitute…

Elise and the swirly lights...

The adventures of Chris and Kyle have lately ended in craziness and today was no different. We met our new an amazing model Elise at the studio right before sundown hauling in a pair of giant bags full of clothes and some kick ass shoes for us to work with. After picking out some outfits we headed on our travels towards downtown Rockford.

Set one consisted of a car park and it was a new adventure in lighting. Going back to the days of lighting bars and nightclubs, this crazy photographer decided he would drag the shutter and go nuts with bold looks and hard light combined with swishy goodness. Many of try to eliminate the nasty effects of slow shutter speed and flash, but today was a day for adventure so why not play with the lighting as well. BTW, this is totally a common setup for fashion and art photogs, but not common enough for people to truly understand it. basically, it’s fun and gives completely cool results.

Our next location was yet another car park, but one we’ve never even parked in before and was a bit off the beaten path. After a quick scene check and yet another hard lighting setup we went at it like photographer and model always should. It was all fun and games until Kyle spotted the Fuzz… Slowly approaches officer friendly and his expression that mimicked that of Bob Newhart he told us it is criminal trespassing to be here. I smiled, appreciated his concern and let him know we were only taking pictures. BUT, our lovely model had her own words to add which sounded a lot like if not exactly like, “I swear I’m not a prostitute!” I will never forget the look Kyle and I had when we heard that ringing through our minds. A quick chuckle and handing over an ID yet another patrol car pulled up to the scene. This officer had a friendly attitude and chuckled while reassuring us everything was ok. We packed up and headed home, but only after we captured some kick ass images and a ton of laughs!

Rule number one of being in a place you shouldn’t then getting caught? Don’t freak out!!!! Be calm and be friendly. This is their job and all the disrespectful people have killed free roam for all of us. If you have a business card on you I recommend handing one over, but it’s not a deal breaker. This isn’t my first run-in and each and every time we are told it’s not ok to take pictures here and we head out. Please don’t explain it’s your right because it’s not and trust me that you’re wasting your time trying to explain law to someone who enforces it. Explaining law goes well in court and it should never lead to you ending up in jail or going to a hearing because you put on a show filled with colorful words.

Well it’s time for relaxation for this photographer. While Kyle sleeps on the floor of the studio I’m join to play on the iPad till my uploads finish. Night ya’ll!
